The problem is with you, not us.

A few weeks ago, at work, a colleague told me the above words. This was in response to my agreeing with another colleague who said that our branding and website was not diverse enough. It was a response to my saying that I agreed and had nearly not applied for my role after the perception that it would be a largely non-diverse and representative place to work at.

We were in a group of about 8 people, 3 of which were ethnic minorities. 2 of us spoke up to refute this idea, one of us stayed completely silent throughout the whole exchange.
